College basketball bettors need to know these top Over and Under wagers

One of the toughest markets to handicap is college basketball totals. That also means it’s one of the toughest markets for oddsmakers to book. If you can find an angle and edge when it comes to the NCAA Over/Under numbers, you can have sportsbooks at your mercy.

Here are the top Over and Under plays in college hoops and their odds for online gambling:

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (15-4-1 Over/Under)

What better town to claim the top Over bet in NCAA basketball than Las Vegas. The Runnin’ Rebels are living up to their moniker, averaging 86.2 points per game and running the 16th fastest pace in the country, chewing up 77.5 possessions per game. That energetic offense is firing at an extremely-efficient 50.9 percent from the floor.

Defensively, UNLV isn’t doing much to slow down opponents. It’s allowing foes to average 75.4 points per contest, which is the secret sauce for topping college basketball totals. The Mountain West Conference, as a whole, is a very high-scoring league, and so far the Rebels have gone 4-2-1 O/U in conference play. However, those two Under results have come in the last two outings, with books getting smart to UNLV’s totals and upping their numbers into the mid-150’s.

Pittsburgh Panthers (2-13 Over/Under)

Life in the ACC is rough if the name on the front of your jersey isn’t Duke, North Carolina, or Virginia. The Pittsburgh Panthers find themselves at the bottom of the conference standings but among the top Under bets in college ball. The Panthers’ offense is mustering only 64.2 points per game and shooting a dismal 33.2 percent from 3-point range.

Pittsburgh runs a methodical offense, averaging only 68.6 possessions, and has dropped seven in a row – failing to crack the 60-point mark in all but one of those outings. Luckily for total bettors, the Panthers are 1-6 Over/Under in the span. This is a very inexperienced Pitt squad, featuring five freshmen, one sophomore, one junior college transfer, and a single senior with little experience, so don’t expect things to turn around anytime soon.

TCU Horned Frogs (14-5 Over/Under)

In a cruel stroke of irony, Pitt’s former head coach Jamie Dixon is now heading up one of the top Over bets in college basketball. Texas Christian is putting up an average of 87.2 points per night and has topped the total in seven of its eight Big 12 games so far this season. Dixon has five players averaging double figures and another putting up 9.6 points per game.

The Horned Frogs are shooting 50 percent from the floor, including almost 41 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and totaling more than nine makes from distance per game. On the defensive end, TCU doesn’t waste too much energy, allowing more than 77 points to opponents and coughing the ball up almost 13 times per game – a product of their frenetic pace that averages 75.4 possessions per outing.

Bradley Braves (4-16 Over/Under)

The top Under bet in all of college hoops is hiding out in the Missouri Valley Conference. Bradley is one of the stingiest defensive teams in the land, holding opponents to 62.2 points on just 38.6 shooting per game. The Braves have stayed below the total in six of their nine MVC contests so far this season.

Offensively, Bradley is stirring up only 67.5 points per night, which sits in the bottom 300 in college basketball. It records only 68 possessions per game and has slowed that pace even more during conference play. The Braves go deep into their bench with reserves playing plenty of minutes and always keeping fresh legs on the floor for this dominating defense.
