Three bad NBA teams that have been great pointspread bets this season | News Article by

When it comes to betting on the NBA odds for online gambling, you’ll rarely find the top teams in the standings also bringing home the bacon at the sportsbook. Very often, the best basketball bets are found at the bottom of the table.

The 2019-20 NBA season is no different, with many bad teams qualifying as good bets in the first month of the schedule. Here are some so-so teams producing big profits in the NBA.

Sacramento Kings(7-10 SU, 11-6 ATS)
The Kings have continued cashing in for NBA handicappers this season after finishing the 2018-19 campaign with a 45-36-1 ATS record – despite Sacramento’s 39-43 record.

Buried at the bottom of the Pacific Division and playing in the shadow of the two Los Angeles franchises, the Kings care catching the points, and plenty of them, most nights. Sacramento has been a pointspread underdog in all but four games so far this season, going 8-5 ATS as an underdog and 3-1 ATS in those rare spots when giving the points.

The Kings are, however, playing without standout point guard De’Aaron Fox and power forward Marvin Bagley III until late December, challenging their roster depth. Those profits could dry up without those two talents and the betting public catching on to the Kings cashing in for NBA bettors.

Washington Wizards (6-11 SU, 10-6-1 ATS)
With star guard John Wall out for the season due to an Achilles injury, there wasn’t much expected from the Wizards this year. However, while Washington has struggled to pick up wins, it has kept things close enough for oddsmakers, covering the spread at a 63.5% rate to open the schedule.

The Wizards are taking a “shoot first and play defense later” approach to this season, ranked second in scoring per game at 118.5 but allowing 121.1 points against per contest – dead last in the Association. As books adjust to Washington’s winning ways against the spread, those profits have started to dissipate, with the Wiz posting a 1-3 ATS mark in its last four games, including a 22-point blowout loss to the LA Lakers Friday night.

The team’s scoring rate has dramatically ticked down over those last four games, putting up scores of 103, 104, and 106 points in those recent losses. Washington has been a pointspread underdog in 12 of its first 17 games and will likely continue catching points in its upcoming games. The Wizards play at the LA Clippers to open December and then run into Orlando, Philadelphia, Miami, and the Clippers again over the next eight days.

Oklahoma City Thunder (7-11 SU, 11-7 ATS)
The 2019-20 season was a right-off the second Paul George left for Los Angeles. And even more so when Russell Westbrook demanded a deal out of OKC. That left the Thunder with an aging Chris Paul and an unproven roster of role players. That perception has made OKC profitable through the first month of the season.

Oklahoma City has been an underdog in 11 of its first 18 games, covering the spread in seven of those outings. The Thunder have been especially strong as home underdogs, with a 3-1 ATS record when catching the points inside Chesapeake Energy Arena, where the team scores almost 112 points per game – 10 points more than on the road.
